[Review] Syzmo: Prickly Pear

Syzmo Pricly Pear CanMy throat hurts. I have had this awful sore throat for about nine days now, and the son of a bitch won’t go away. It makes it very hard to be able to drink anything carbonated, let alone consume and enjoy an energy drink. But when I saw Syzmo Prickly Pear in my refrigerator, it sounded delightful. A soft, refreshing pear flavored drink seemed like it would really hit the spot.

But before I get to the actual review, let me tell you more about this sore throat. My airway is practically swollen shut, though it is getting much better. Riddled along my tonsils are little puss-filled wart-like blemishes, plump and white, that occasionally pop and release a rancid odor. Everything seems to be getting a bit better, but now I’ve got this uncontrollable cough that projects a dark green slime from within my body into my mouth so I am forced to taste it. It tastes like guacamole. I don’t like guacamole.

Anyway, now that I’ve got your appetite going, let’s take a look at Syzmo Prickly Pear.

Review:

After popping the tab off of the little green can and leaning in for whiff, I was surprised to discover that Syzmo possesses a very pleasant pear aroma. Actually, closer examination yields a scent that seems like it would come from a pear flavored liquor. Maybe that’s the blue agave (used to make tequila), but still. It really smells like pears! I know, it seems like common since that something labeled as pear-flavored would smell like pears, but that’s usually not the case. With Syzmo, however, I found the juicy scent to be very appetizing, and it really got me excited to taste it, especially considering the fact that pears are probably my favorite fruit.

My first sip yielded impressive results that continued throughout consumption. Though the flavor is a bit odd when it first hits your mouth, that quirk quickly resides and leaves a very refreshing, solidly delicious pear flavor. I am honestly very impressed and even more surprised that Prickly Pear is as good as it is. I actually reviewed the original flavor on Everyview a while back, and I found the product to be mediocre at best. This, however, is excellent!

Maybe it is because this is the first energy drink I’ve had in a while, but Syzmo Prickly Pear kicks in a pretty decent fashion. It takes about 30 minutes to take effect, but once the wait is over you’ll experience a nice uplifting boost that just enhances your mood. I no longer feel like bitching about my sore throat! Instead I feel like playing some guitar or watching a bird so… bird related stuff.

I’m not even going to talk about Syzmo’s value because, sadly, the world’s first mainstream organic energy brand has been entirely discontinued. You’re never going to find to have the chance to buy it, unless someone stocked up on the stuff and is selling it out of their van. There’s no since in mourning, though. Let’s wrap this thing up and get on with our lives.

Final Words:

Syzmo Prickly Pear has a delicious, refreshing aroma and a flavor that is just as juicy and satisfying as biting into a ripe pear. Every aspect about it impressed me, which is why it bums me out to hear that the Syzmo name is dead. I was looking forward to grabbing a few more cans in the near future. I guess I shouldn’t have taken so long to open this one can I had in the back of my mini fridge. RIP.
